MTA Queens Workshop Discusses Planned Bus Route Changes

MTA Queens Workshop Discusses Planned Bus Route Changes
Jan 23, 2020

Since the Spring of 2019, the MTA has been planning changes to the city’s bus service.

On January 22nd the MTA hosted the first of seven regional workshop meetings to discuss its  434-page proposal that lays out new routes and eliminates others.  The attendees of the event were mainly Queens residents across the borough who sought an opportunity to communicate their input to MTA representatives about the proposed bus routing changes.

Flushing residents who attended the meeting took issue with several of the proposed MTA changes.  In one area, one proposed change would route buses for a QT65, running north/south on 160 ST from Beechurst to Northern Blvd.  Another proposal would route a bus numbered QT85, running east/west along 32 AVE from Union ST to Francis Lewis Blvd.

Flushing residents, mainly from the Broadway-Flushing district, argued that the proposed routes would run through corridors which are 100% residential. The proposal for 160 ST would include widening of this street and the installation of bus stops; under this plan, bus stops would be installed along 32 AVE.
